Methods Concept

MethodenkonzeptIn 2001, the PISA report was released, setting off an earthquake in the international education landscape as it revealed flaws and shortcomings in education in various countries. The findings came as a surprise to many, and the resulting and aptly-named “PISA shock” caused Germany in particular to reconsider the way children were taught and revealed the need for competency-based teaching. Student-centered teaching methods are not only the key to a lasting understanding of subject matter, but also promote self-reliance and self-confidence. Therefore, teachers at the CDSC evaluate their teaching not only on the quality of teaching content (input orientation) but increasingly on student comprehension and learning growth (output orientation).

The “methods” concept developed in 2011 takes into account the latest developments of both didactic and competency-based teaching methods, including the practice of regularly scheduled “method-days”. Competence-oriented teaching also brings important social and personal skills into the larger education picture. Therefore, besides communicating Christian values such as reliability, honesty, authenticity and empathy, we at CDSC encourage the importance of communication, teamwork and constructive criticism.
